I did it! 50 sets of 8 with a 24kg bell. Damn! I'm proud of myself!
1-arm Swing, 15:15 style
400 reps
21200 lbs. !!!
This is a PR for work volume too.
in 12.5 minutes of working time! That is some power output!
And there's more. I was actually counting out my sets tonight and accidentally did 2 sets of 9 in there because I figured out something very important to all users of the GYMBOSS.
It is your little friend. Follow me here - I set it up for 2 timed periods, 15 and 15. I begin swinging with the first beep - bang 1 set done and it still says zero sets. Then I rest and it beeps again so I do my second set, BUT THE BOSS SAYS 1.
Get it?! I've been counting wrong all this time! Up 'til today I've actually done 2 more sets than I thought I was doing because to count 40 sets I would go 'til the BOSS said 41 when 40 was actually at 39!
I counted all my sets out loud this time (shouting as I sucked wind was more like it at the end) and I got to 50 sets while the BOSS still said 49.
So I'm more of a Man than I thought! And probably so are you! Unless you wait for the second beep to start working (and use the first interval for rest) the BOSS count will be 1 less than your work sets, not one more.
OK, that's about as good at math as I get. LOL. At least it counts for something worthwhile!
Onwards. What next? I think I'll bask a bit in the satisfaction of my goal acheived for a bit before 'tightening my chin strap', as the Samurai used to say. (the whole saying was; "After the battle, tighten your helmet strap")

I TOLD you, dude! GymBoss counts completed cycles, including rest. It worked out for the best, though, LOL!
400 swings is madness! You are a swinging machine and should be very proud of this achievement. Awesome! You worked hard for it.
It's 25 minutes though, right? Not 12.5?
Thanks, Aaron!
Yeah, 25 total workout minutes, half of which was actually doing the work. (50 sets x .25 min. = 12.5 minutes) The other half was sucking wind.
It got really hard to keep a lot of snap in my form - hips thrust forward hard, knees locked, bell at face height, shoulder in socket, etc. - but I did, right to the last rep. It became a matter of personal pride. Good character development. Hell, yeah!
After a certain point it's mostly willpower - forcing yourself to do it right and not letting yourself get lazy even though you're tired and winded.
Damn right! That was a great challenge and a great performance. Glad to know you pushed hard 'til the end and made it.
gotchya about the time thing... 12.5 solid minutes of intense work is formidable.
In case anyone is interested, I made a soundtrack to listen to while I did my workout. Here is what pumped me up: (In order)
Jungle - Kiss
Chemical Euphoria - Armored Saint
Monkey Wrench - Foo Fighters
Beautiful People - Marilyn Manson
Lying From You - Linkin Park
Hit the Floor - Linkin Park
Somewhere I Belong - Linkin Park
nice work Doc!
Hi, question is it
- 15 sec of work right hand, 15 second rest, 15 sec work with left hand etc. OR
- 15 sec work with right, 15 sec with left, 15 sec with right etc ?
Because I tried the second option and ended up after 3 minutes with my grip weak as dead mouse... It was 8 reps per 15 sec, so 192 resp it total but am I pussy or did I choose the wrong option ?
Thanks a lot
Petr
Petr,
It is option 1 - 15 seconds of work (left OR right) then 15 seconds of REST!!! then work again with the opposite hand. Doing all swings it is rather easy on the grip with the 16 or 24 (for me anyway).
You will kill yourself trying to do 25 straight minutes of swings or snatches at that pace!
Aha, OK :o) thanks.
I do Tabbata but somehow id didn't clicked that I should rest and not work with my second arm.
Thanks, will try it later then.
